Hey Nonny Nonny
Catherine Tate and David Tennant are currently starring in Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London (until October). A cast recording of the in the ’80s-inspired production, including the couple of songs Tennant and Tate sing, has been made available on iTunes. Well, Doctor Who fans will buy anything…
One of the songs has made it onto YouTube already. Erm… If you’re familiar with the play, you’ve probably not quite heard it like this before. Good ol’ Shakespeare with a dodgy sax solo.

Kate Bush Front Row interview
Interviews with KB are a rare pleasure. This is from last night, for the Front Row programme on BBC Radio 4.
Eno interview

I’m unwell, and I’ve got various things I want to write up and talk about, but it’ll have to wait for now. Some of that stuff may not make it onto here if it loses topicality. Chronic illness and being very busy can have that effect on a blog.
Anyway, for now, here’s an interview I enjoyed earlier:
I like interviews that bother to go into process. I’m mostly not bothered about how cool musicians are or what they get up to on tour or where they buy their shoes.
Plaid & The Southbank Gamelan Players
I wrote this review for The Culture Vulture. Emma asked me to review the venue as well as the gig.
I’ve got exams next week, hence the lack of meaningful blogging, but I will resume posting soon and hopefully will put up a couple of photos and a video from this gig after it’s all over.
Award Yawn

Awards, shortlists and end-of-year-best-of-lists aren’t for people who care about music. They’re to tell £50 bloke what to buy to soundtrack his next dinner party or long car journey with the kids to Scotland/Devon, and to shift CDs in supermarkets.
Apposite

One of my favourite record labels, Wichita, have produced a delightfully non-naff free iPhone app with exclusives and stuff. Marvellous. They’ve also just rush-released the digital version of what I think will be one of my albums of the year, Sky Larkin’s new LP Kaleide. I will be pre-ordering the collectors’ edition of the physical record next week (i.e. when I have a small amount of cash available). Immediate digital download.
You can hear the album now on their website (linked above) to boot. It sounds amazing. Like the first one, only more so. Sky Larkin are one of my favourite bands, which is not an accolade I bandy around lightly. I don’t write about music much on here as I fear the deluge of emails from terrible bands (most bands are terrible) or friends wanting me to write about their projects. Sky Larkin are worth poking my head above the parapet for, I’ve loved them from the earliest demos and they know it. Anjelica Huston is my current top track…

Howard Assembly Room, Leeds
with one comment
I took part in this short film about the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds, which is a really lovely venue to which I was proud to lend my support. It’s funny, I wore a beret because it was windy that day and my hair was everywhere, but in the video I look like an authentic artponce as a result.
